For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, you are God's building. According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.  Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is. If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. 1 Cor 3:9-15

The Bible reminds us that as believers, we can’t just sit on the sidelines. We are called to participate in what God is doing. In the passage above, Paul reminds believers that we are “God’s fellow workers,” people invited to help build something eternal with Him.

Hel writes: “For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, you are God's building…for no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

This passage paints a powerful picture of our lives. Paul compares believers to builders. Every choice we make, every act of obedience, every opportunity to love, encourage, serve, forgive, or share the hope of Christ becomes part of what we are building. The question is not whether we are building something, but what kind of foundation and materials we are building with.

The foundation must always be Jesus. Our careers, accomplishments, possessions, and recognition are important in this life, but they have no eternal value; only what is built on Christ will truly last. Paul explains that one day our works will be tested, and what was done for God’s kingdom will remain. That truth is not meant to make us fearful, but purposeful.

Many times, serving doesn’t look extraordinary. It happens in everyday, simple moments, encouraging someone who is discouraged, praying for a friend, showing kindness when it is inconvenient, serving in church, giving generously, or simply living in a way that reflects Christ in everyday life. These things may seem small to us, but in God’s hands, they carry eternal value.

Sometimes we don’t get involved because we think it requires doing something big or dramatic, but often it begins with simple faithfulness. A willing heart,  a servant’s attitude,  a  life that says, “Lord, use me.”

As followers of Christ, each of us has a role to play, and every act is important. God sees the unseen moments of faithfulness, and His Word reminds us that nothing done for Him is ever wasted.

Today is a good opportunity to ask: What am I building with my life? Am I living only for temporary things, or am I investing in what will last for eternity?

God has called each of us to be doers of His Word and faithful workers in His kingdom. As we serve others, love well, and remain rooted in Christ, we are building something that will endure.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to build my life on the foundation of Jesus and to serve You faithfully in the everyday moments of life. Show me opportunities to love, encourage, and serve others in ways that bring glory to You. Teach me to live with eternity in mind and to remain faithful in the work You have called me to do. Thank You that nothing done for You is ever wasted. In Jesus’ name, amen.
