It’s an odd title, isn’t it? Christmas is all about celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, so why would we need to intentionally seek Him to experience His presence during this special season?
Here’s why:
Amid the season's busyness—standing in long shopping lines, wrapping gifts, planning festive meals, and rushing from one event to the next—it’s so easy to lose sight of Him. What should be a time of celebration and wonder can quickly become overwhelming and exhausting. But this season, the only true remedy for a weary soul is experiencing His presence, peace, and glory.
Maybe this Christmas season has been unusually fast-paced, packed with extra tasks and distractions. After the past few “quiet” Christmases, this one could easily seem out of control, and it will be if we don’t give ourselves time to connect with God in the midst of it.
Even though Christmas is less than a week away now, it’s not too late to redeem the season. Decide to reset your focus. Put your endless to-do list aside and prioritize your relationship with Jesus. Intentionally seek Him, pursue Him, and rest in Him.
Here are three simple ways to keep your focus on Jesus!
1. Get in the Word
A quick devotional isn’t enough right now. Spending more time in scripture is the only way to strengthen your connection with Him.
Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. – Matthew 4:4
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. – Psalm 119:105
2. Listen to Worship and Praise Music
Music has a profound impact on our spirits, especially during Christmas. But I’m not talking about traditional songs; I’m talking about songs that glorify our Savior—the one whose birth brought heaven down to us. Worship music can fill us with peace, joy, and a renewed sense of His presence.
Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. – Psalm 95:1
I will sing to the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. – Psalm 104:33
3. BE STILL
Sometimes, we must shut the world out to hear God over all the noise! Quieting ourselves in the chaos enables us to see and hear Him clearly.
Be still, and know that I am God. – Psalm 46:10
Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. – James 4:8
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. – Jeremiah 29:13
True peace and rest come from Jesus. He promises it. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." – Matthew 11:28. May our souls be refreshed by the One who created Christmas.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, please forgive me for losing sight of the true meaning of Christmas. Please help me to refocus on what is truly important. I am thankful you are always with me and will never leave or forsake me. I give you my full attention; please fill my heart with your love. Thank you for the greatest gift, your son Jesus, who gave his life for me so that I could be saved. Thank you, Lord, for Jesus; in his name I pray today, amen.
