There are times when life just seems to happen to you. Maybe you are going along and doing your best, and then boom, life happens. Negative circumstances begin to surround you. You might begin to wonder why these things are happening to you and be uncertain about how to move forward. It is at these moments in life that you get to make a choice about how you are going to respond.
It is easy to sit back and complain about life, perhaps even blame others for the mess you are in. The better choice is to avoid being overwhelmed and to look to God for an answer to the problem. God does not want us to have a victim mentality. Victims are helpless; they cannot control things, and they must accept whatever comes down the pipe of life. God did not call you to be a victim; He called you to be a victor!
1 Cor 15:57 - But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
When we look at the Word of God, we can see that God wants us to walk in victory. God has made a way out of your troubles. 1 John 4:4 says: Greater is He that is in you than he who is in the world. You have God on your side. God, the creator of the universe, the maker of all things, He is for you and not against you!
He knows exactly what you need, and He knows exactly what to do to fix the trouble you are in. Choose to believe in Him, look to Him, and trust Him.
When you have a victim mentality, you are focused on your problems and how hard things are, and you begin to feel sorry for yourself. God cannot help you when you are wallowing in self-pity. You are not believing, trusting, or looking to God for help if you are having a pity party. You must take your eyes off your circumstances and problems and get them on God, His Word, and His promises! You need to remind yourself that you have been given the victory in Christ Jesus.
The Bible calls you more than a conqueror, an overcomer, and triumphant. Let those thoughts begin to take hold. The problems you are facing in this life are temporary.
2 Cor 4:17 - For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,
Remind yourself today that you are victorious! You can overcome any temptation; you can overcome any fears or worries because you are an overcomer! Do not give in to the victim mentality, resist thoughts of self-pity, rise, and be the person God made you to be. Accomplish God’s plan for your life and be fruitful for Him.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank you for giving me the ability to overcome all the problems in this life. I don’t have to be overwhelmed by the troubles; I can choose to look to you and your word. I refuse to be a victim, and I declare in Jesus’ name that I am victorious!
