God invites us to come and be nourished by Him. The question is, how will we respond?
Can you remember what you had for dinner last week? You might have to think about it for a moment. Whatever it was, I’m sure it nourished your body and gave you strength for another day. We have to constantly feed and take care of our bodies so that we are strong and healthy.
We are the same way spiritually; we must continually feed ourselves and exercise our faith to remain strong and fit. We feed ourselves spiritually with the Word of God. Like eating your favorite meal, you sit and partake of the Word. Without the Word of God, you will begin to feel weak and disconnected from your spirit man.
I remember growing up in a large family: we would be outside playing in the neighborhood, and at dinnertime, my parents would ring the dinner bell to tell us it was time to come home. If you wanted to eat, you had to come when they called.
People don’t always recognize that they need spiritual food. How can you know the Bible is the right spiritual food for you?
Look at these verses:
1 Peter 2:2 — As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby,
1 Timothy 4:6 — Being nourished with the words of the faith.
Think about eating: food provides health for our body and fuel to live on. Eating keeps us alive physically. When we eat spiritually, it brings life to our spirit man.
Our strength comes from the Word of God.
1 John 2:14 — …I have written to you, young men, because you are strong and the Word of God abides in you and you have overcome the evil one.
Being spiritually strong is connected to having the Word of God abide in you. When you let God’s Word abide in you, it becomes strength for your spirit man.
God is still ringing the dinner bell and calling you to come and eat. Learn to feed yourself spiritually: spend time in His Word, pray, and worship God. When you consistently practice good spiritual eating habits, they will keep you strong and healthy for life.
There are many different ways we feed ourselves spiritually, through church, podcasts, video messages, worship, and time in the Word. All of these are good and important. But we want to offer one more way to help you stay consistent and rooted this summer.
Our Summer Discipleship Program is designed to help you come back to the table through simple, audio-based lessons that make it easy to stay in the Word all summer long. Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for calling me to partake of spiritual food. You desire me to be spiritually strong and healthy. Thank You for Your Word, which strengthens me and nourishes my faith. Lord, help me feed myself every day so I can grow spiritually. In Jesus’ name, amen.
